African American artist Ellen Gallagher has said that her work is influenced by Minimalism — but I couldn’t help thinking, “Really? Are you sure?” (with a smile).

Her pieces are so rich in meticulous, delicate textures and fine detail that it’s impossible not to be amazed — how could anyone have built up such intricate layers of work? It’s truly impressive.
