Before the first drop fell, the echo had already blurred at the edges.

The wall forgot the color it once held.
Not from neglect,
but from remembering too many kinds of wet.
The window below still carried the sky,
soft with clouds
that forgot how to fall.

yet no clang ever came.
They fell into paint,
smudging their value into memory.
“Not all sound rings.
Some just stain.”

still not ready to fall,
not yet choosing who to touch.
Each one a possible whisper,
a paused story
still hanging in air.

Rain once entered a golden shell.
And when it did, it stayed—
not as water,
but as a soft vibration.
A shimmering hum of voices never spoken,
yet heard all the same.

In the forest,
it became impossible to tell
which sound belonged to the rain
and which to the wind.
So they wove together,
like friends rain had chosen.
And on certain days,
you can hear them reflected
in the things that forgot
they once knew how to echo.
